Alex 2

Alex

Math, Science, English and French Specialist

Biography

My name is Alex, and I’m currently a Master’s student in Microbiology & Immunology at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. While I’ve been in Montreal for the last five years, I still call Wayne, PA home. I attended Radnor High School, where I played baseball and was part of the Model UN Team. I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Honors Microbiology & Immunology in 2023, and have since begun a Master’s degree in the same field. I primarily teach science, mathematics, and writing. Additionally, I am fluent in French and can also teach this subject!

Why I teach?

I teach because I’ve been in those shoes—not too long ago, actually—facing tough assignments, feeling stuck, and sometimes just needing someone to break things down in a way that makes sense. Being a recent university graduate, I know how helpful it can be to have someone who’s been through it and can share tips, shortcuts, and a bit of encouragement. I want my students to feel like they have a guide who gets it, someone who’s there to celebrate the small wins and help them tackle the tricky parts without feeling overwhelmed. Seeing those moments when things finally start to make sense is the best part of what I do.

Fun facts

  • I am a dual citizen of the US and France
I grew up in Boston, and am a huge Celtics fan
I love to ski, and my favorite mountain is Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia

I am originally from California, but live outside of Philadelphia with my husband, 3 kids, and 2 dogs. I love to read and have read over 70 books this year and have 14 tattoos and counting.  I graduated from American University with my bachelor's degrees in International Relations and Sociology. Why I teach?

I was diagnosed with ADHD late in life and I often think, "What would my life be like if I had this diagnosis earlier?" I didn't have any teachers that "thought" like I did. I felt like I was in my own world and I didn't fit in with my peers, especially when it came to my academics. I want to be that type of brain for my students. My goal is to make sure that ALL brains feel confident in their math abilities. You will often hear me say, "trust your math gut." I strive to foster this confidence in all of my students every day.

Richa

Math and Science Specialist

Biography

All my education happened in India, a few decades ago 😉. My undergrad degree is in physics, chemistry, and math. That was followed up with a master's in chemistry, and a certificate in computer science! My first job was teaching programming. I later worked in the software development industry in both India and Australia.
I came to the US 14 years ago and my family has been based in Malvern, PA since then.
For the last eleven of those years, I have been a para professional at Conestoga High School. Currently, I am a science (and math) tutor in the achievement center there. I’ve had the opportunity to work with a diverse group of students and cover a wide range of content, specializing in chemistry, physics, and applied math.

Why I teach?

I love what I do! Helping communicate content and clarify concepts for students is extremely rewarding. Hearing “ah, I get it now” is the most gratifying part of the job. Also, switching between the different subjects keeps me on my toes; I myself continue to learn something new every day.
